Me Ra Koh

Me Ra’s popular 2-Day Dallas CONFIDENCE Photography Workshop for Women is coming up quickly.  Women of all ages and stages of life come.  For over ten years, she and Brian have had the opportunity to give numerous scholarships to specific moms who wouldn’t otherwise have the means to attend this special workshop.  But this scholarship isn’t for just any mom.  It’s for a photography loving mom who is running on empty.  Do you know a mom running on empty?  If yes, keep reading!

It’s very common for each workshop to have a mix of total beginners AND paid pros from graduating seniors to young moms to published, paid women photographers to aspiring photo-loving grandmas.  Yet, no matter how diverse the group is all the women have one thing in common, they desire solid confidence in their photography.  That’s why Me Ra and Brian call this richly packed 2 days, the CONFIDENCE Photography Workshop for women.  But not only are there a few spots left to register for, there is also a reserved spot for a special mom.  Me Ra and Brian have set aside a special scholarship seat for one woman.

If you are not familiar with this scholarship, read Me Ra’s description below and see what it’s all about!  Moms are one of the most beautiful, powerful people in our life. Note from Me Ra:

“In honor of how wonderful moms are and all that they do and give, Brian and I keep one spot reserved in (almost) every CONFIDENCE workshop for a special mom like YOU!  That’s right, you (or she) will get a free pass to the upcoming CONFIDENCE Photography Workshop for women in the Dallas area!  This is a $1249 value, wrapped in a weekend of inspiration and creativity.  (Please note, we don’t provide room/board and travel.)

To nominate a mom, you must post a comment below telling us about the mom who you think deserves a big break in life! If you are a mom, you’re probably laughing because we ALL deserve a serious break. But the moms we’re looking for are the ones who have had a ridiculous amount of stress in their life whether from trauma or things just not going her way. She is a mom in your life that needs a serious blessing. She needs a serious surprise that gives her empty tank some fuel. If she is a woman that has miscarried, she is still a mom in my mind b/c I know her heart became a mother’s heart the moment she found out she was pregnant. Don’t hesitate to nominate her too.

I’m proud to say that some of our previous winners stepped out on a limb and nominated themselves. Take courage in them and feel free to nominate yourself if you know you need a serious break. Who knows, you may have your house remodeled by Oprah!  Yep!  A previous winner went on to nominate her family’s story and home.  You never know what will happen when you put yourself out there.  And you are worth it.  You are worthy of all the goodness life has to give.  Let Brian and I bless you and your creative spirit with this special scholarship for photography loving mom.”

xoxo,

Me Ra and Brian

It may sound selfish and if it is please, by all means, don’t count this as a nomination but I so wish I could win this scholarship. No, I’m not poor, I’m not homeless, there are so many things I am not. But I am a mom who feels empty. Something is missing. I’m tired, emotionally, mentally and physically. I need to recharge as we all do at some time.
I have a loving family and husband but it is me that feels empty. I feel lost sometimes like there is no me anymore. I used to love taking photos. Photography was my dream, a dream I try to keep alive. But life just seems to be pushing that aside. Seems every time I try to grasp at it, I fall short. And I know why it’s confidence or a lack of it I should say.
I compare myself to other’s who are amazing at their photography skills, at their ability to get through this life picture perfectly. I can’t do that. I just feel this yearning again to work at my photography skills, to find some part of me again. You would think I’m some kid out of high school saying this “I need to find myself” stuff but I’m not. I’m a 50+ mom of two teens, one who has special needs and I homeschool and another who is starting high school which this mom isn’t ready for.
Could I use this class? Yes, very much so because I need this, I need something for me. Something to help me build up my confidence on my own.

I read this and my mind led me straight to a person that I hold dear in my heart, my sister Nanette. She is my best friend. She is the woman who will go through a storm when you need her and when she needs to come to the defense of her loved ones, she is the storm. Strong and firm, I am 37 years old and I still tell her, “I want to be you when I grow up.” She is that woman. Her heart carries the weight of being a special needs mom to her son, doing her all to spend equal amounts of time with her daughter who is her little carbon copy, being a supportive wife to her husband, a blogger for many years now, and a wonderful friend. Although she has her daily struggles she reaches deep inside and pushes through each day because that is who she is. She fights the exhaustion and no doubt some tears. However, in each parts of her life she finds a way to bring in the passion she has for photography. I would love for her to have this experience. This would be an incredible gift for her. As a mom, daughter, sister, wife, and friend I could not think of anyone that deserves this more. My nominee is this marvelous mom, devoted daughter, stunning sister, wonderful wife, and fantastic friend; I nominate Nanette @AMomBlog.

My husband once told me that he loves the photos I take because I “see people” and this encouraged me to want to become a photographer. However, the last few years have been very difficult for my family. I feel like I’ve been missing out on capturing the beauty of people and life. I haven’t picked up my camera very much at all and it makes me sad. I’ve lost what little confidence I had in it over the last couple of years. I have felt unloved, unwanted and discouraged. I think it scares me to pick up my camera because of what my photos might reflect. Photography used to make me so happy but I’m running on empty. I want to feel happy and confident again when I pick up my camera. So as Meredith Grey once said, “Pick me, choose me, love me”. I need this! I nominate myself!

Jennifer is a source of pride and inspiration for me.

She has persevered through the years and worked to maintain an attitude of gratitude in her personal and professional life despite several heart-rending losses. When young, she faced the sudden passing of her beloved father… not long after losing her beloved grandmother. When married, she endured the loss of pregnancy multiple times. Despite these emotionally wrenching setbacks, she realizes how precious life is and now is blessed to have two healthy beautiful children (“rainbow children” as she calls them) and a loving husband. It makes her grateful for each day with them.

As a medical professional, Jennifer works in high-stress situations at times, especially when she participates in medical emergencies. During her first week back from maternity leave, despite all of their efforts, the response team was not able to save a child. That was her first time losing a patient since becoming a mother, so hearing and sharing in the mother’s grief was especially heartbreaking.

Balancing her life and her work responsibilities and coping with the stresses of each is so very draining. So Jennifer turns to photography as a creative release. For her, it is a tangible way to capture images of and remember and celebrate her life’s blessings.

I have watched as Jennifer pursues and studies and develops this remarkably useful and redemptive craft. For these many reasons, I see her as an excellent nominee for your photography scholarship. With love and gratitude and admiration for her, I proudly nominate my step-daughter Jennifer at jennifermarieng@gmail.com

When I read this opportunity, I immediately thought of my cousin Christa Davis. Christa is the mother of 3 handsome boys and one tiny sweet little girl. She is quite possibly one of the strongest, kindest and most determined women I’ve ever met. Christa is not only Mom to these four kiddos, but she also home schools them, and has just been named President of her home school co-op. I’m proud of her in many ways, however, getting to know her better over family trips, and sitting around the camp fire, reminds me of how lucky I am to know her, much less call her family. Her ability to show patience, and loving kindness seems to come natural to her, and the constant selfless acts she shows daily reminds me that she always considers that her needs should come last. Everyone else always comes first in Christa world, and I would absolutely love to see her rewarded with this opportunity to come to Dallas and become a part of the Confidence Alumni. I would be elated to keep the kids while she gets the experience of a lifetime. Her favorite “me-time” hobby if you will, is photography, and she’s amazing. Her pictures will bring tears to your eyes, and you can actually feel each photo, quickly drawing you in to the story.
Please choose Christa. Please choose this wonder loving Mom who rarely has time to herself. Her sweet spirit is long lasting and she will not disappoint. 🙂

Just the other day Nanette and I were talking about how she wanted to dive deeper into her passion for photography but just did not have the means right now. She and I have actually talked several times about your workshop and she has always said one day she would do whatever possible to be a part of your workshop. And then God provided the open door. It was not but a few days later that I saw the amazing opportunity and had to nominate Nanette. Not only is she my best friend but she has taught me so much about, patience, compassion and seeing God’s true beauty through her photography. You can tell by just looking at some of the pictures that Nanette has taken that this is her passion. Her pictures speak a thousand words.

Nanette always puts everyone before herself and this one time I want to see Nanette take some time for herself and follow her dreams instead of making sure everyone else in her family and inner circle is following their dreams. She is the most selfless person I have ever met and I pray that you consider Nanette to be part of this opportunity. She is Nan at AMomBlog.

My wife Melissa is an amazing mother, and this workshop is exactly what she needs. She is the mother of three girls (ages 6, 8 and 11) and one baby boy (15 months), and she pours out her life, heart and energy to each one of them every day.

Melissa suffers from fibromyalgia, a difficult-to-treat condition that causes her to experience muscle pain and fatigue on a daily basis. That doesn’t stop her loving spirit from giving her all to her family.

One of Melissa’s greatest delights show is getting behind a camera to capture her children. She loves capturing the everyday moments of their interactions, smiles and tears and takes great joy knowing that she can pass theses photos down to them as a legacy for her family.

Melissa is familiar with basic concepts of using a camera, but she knows that she can do so much more with the proper training. She is a big fan of Mera Koh and frequently shows me photos that Mera shares on Instagram. A chance to attend one of Mera Koh’s workshops would be a gift like no other.

Please take a look at Melissa’s Instagram account at @melissapond to get an idea of her love for her family through photography.

    Dear Scholarship Nominees,
I want to personally thank each of you for sharing your beautiful stories. It is clear that every woman nominated is a woman of incredible strength, and it’s a honor to hear your stories. You each inspire us all to appreciate life and give it everything we’ve got. Thank you for that gift.
Our past scholarship recipients choose the winner. She has been notified by Teresa, and she has confirmed that she can attend. For the September CONFIDENCE Workshop, we’re happy to invite Melissa Pond, nominated by her husband Mike Pond. Melissa, we can’t wait to meet you! It’s going to be a full, rich, inspiring, refreshing two days. Brian and I can’t wait to pour into you!
For those who weren’t chosen, Brian and I try to offer this special scholarship opportunity for every CONFIDENCE Workshop. Why? I intimately know what it’s like to be a mom running on empty, it was in that trying, painful season that I found photography. That’s why we’ve been extending this gift for over ten years to women of all backgrounds.
It is not unusual for women to nominate themselves or a friend several times. And yes, those women have ended up coming. I can’t tell you how powerful the timing is with this workshop. When the timing is right, and you’re able to attend, you’ll know that it was the PERFECT timing. So don’t lose hope. Be bold! Keep nominating yourself.
Brian and I look forward to giving you a big hug when you come!
    Much, much love,
    Me Ra Koh
