Part 2: New York Confidence Workshop

wendy

Welcome Back to Part 2 of the New York Confidence Workshop held in Jersey City, NJ.

The ladies did such an amazing job again during our Family Model Shoot.  I didn’t let them hang out in open shade for the whole shoot.  They got in bright sun and experimented with metering, shooting in Manual, and dealing with those “dreaded” harsh shadows.

Jessica Sudusky captured amazing shots of these two boys.  When we discuss composition in a workshop, we talk about the “Rule of Thirds”, and when using it, it can enhance and completely change the story being told in an image.  Sometimes you just have to break the “rules” and I am so glad that Jessica broke this “rule” because I think the little boy looks perfect right in the middle of the image.

These kiddos had the bluest eyes I have ever seen.  Nikki Buchalski knew that if you asked them to look up at her toward the sky (just a little bit), they would just come across that much bluer in the image.  Totally awesome Nikki!

There is nothing more sweet than catching a dad and his son laughing together.  Even with Dad a tad-bit out of focus because she was focused on the little boy;  the emotion in this picture totally says it all.  Very nice Laura Hanis!

Bo Daley, I love, love,  love this image.  The motion of her body and hair, her smile…just perfect!

Meg Hansen, I love how you caught this little guy in action.   This is one of those shots where the parents always say, “I can’t believe you caught him doing what he does constantly right now!”

I love to have one of the siblings step forward and do something they love while doing family portraits.  This little girl choose…SPINNING!  Here is my view of her spinning with the family totally loving it in the background.  A little while later Kristen Fair caught the second image while the girl was still spinning:)

Even though we were not shooting strictly babies on the second day, I love that Courtney Henry didn’t forget to capture some details of where the children are at this age.  So fun, and the railing lines really add to the composition of this image.  Nice eye Courtney!

Kristen also caught this really tender moment between mom and daughter.

Christi, mom is looking so beautiful in this image.  I am sure she loves it…And I am totally LOL at the second image here!  Darling.

What a fantastic shot Sarah Cruz took of these two siblings, which we all know, trying to get siblings together in a photo is quite a challenge.  You did it Sarah!

Those “in-between” moments are those magical times when you can catch images that are pure joy.  These are so wonderful Jeanine Capan!

We had a little portrait exercise as well this weekend.  Here are some of the great head shots the ladies took of each other.  I wish so badly, that I had one of each attendee, but these are the ones that people submitted to the online gallery afterwards.

At the end of Day 2 we spend some time talking about post-processing, mainly Lightroom.  As you remember from Part 1, the Behind the Scenes photos showed that I only had a little window light to work with here for the baby images, but after 2 or 3 adjustments in Lightroom, the photo becomes so much more intense.  I love that about Lightroom!  It is so simplistic when you need it to be.

I absolutely have a full heart when I look through the pictures after a workshop, and I see all of you making new friendships, taking pictures of each other and just enjoying the moments.

XOXO Ladies!
Me Ra
