Be Inspired: Meet the CONFIDENCE NY Wkshp and See Their Work!

Me Ra Koh

Since we are talking about NY this week, can I introduce you to 20 attendees, the Running on Empty Winner, and the incredible, beautiful images these women captured at the NY CONFIDENCE Workshop??!!

These women are so crazy special!  They have really hung in there with me and Brian.  First off, this workshop happened this last Spring…and you are just now seeing their work.  Our luggage was also lost so we didn’t have any of their workshop folders and had to ship them after!  Second, my hard drive AND back up hard drive crashed after this workshop!  Yes!!!!  BOTH!!!  And we had to have our group image recovered in a dust free lab!  And then my dad had his accident within the next two weeks, and well…nothing happened for months after that (except the Nate Berkus Show :)).

NY CONFIDENCE Ladies!  I LOVE you and thank you for your patience, enthusiasm, support and how you brought your whole heart to this weekend!  It was an AMAZING time!  And you are all beautiful, talented photographers–the proof is all below!

The baby shoot had a fun twist in NY because one of my book editors and the gal in charge of the book design, from Random House, came with their two sweet babies to be our models!

This photo cracks me up because I wanted to take this little guy home with me!  Here I am trying to convince him!

He reminded me so much of when Blaze was a baby.

The ladies also worked on metering and shooting in Manual!  This is the exciting shift our attendees make at every workshop!

But seriously, LOOK AT WHAT THESE WOMEN CAPTURED!!  Many of them have blogs and websites!  You’ll love checking them all out!

This intimate moment was captured by Alicia Schneider. I love how quiet it feels…and the catch light in those big eyes!

Christine Barker, our SOAR! support QUEEN, had another take on this little guy!  I laugh every time I look at this shot!  Such a classic moment that Christine grabbed!

Karen Casey was our precious Running on Empty winner, and she captured this bright eyed moment.  Karen committed to taking a photo of her son ever day, and you have to click on her name.  Some pretty sweet moments!

Kristen Hassell worked this newborn, and even though we don’t see their faces…I love how intimate and soft this photo is.  It’s just beautiful Kristen!

Meet one of my editors, Cathy!  She, her husband and baby girl came to be our models.  I LOVE what Michelle Bodamer captured of all three!  It feels so incredibly editorial to me, as if she was doing a story on this family and happened to capture this moment in their living room.

And oh…Rachel Lieb…she noticed how connected this baby girl was with her bunny.  This is the kind of photo a family saves for generations to come.  Wonderful detail shot Rachel!

One of the weekend’s challenges that we purposefully set women up with is the fact that they have three, four, maybe five other photographers surrounding them.  This forces them to look for the shot they wouldn’t normally see–to get outside of their creative shooting box.  Well, Lisa Novitsky of  Wizelight Photography knocked it out of the park!  This image says “mother’s strength, beauty, raw power” and so much more.

Are these photos, perspectives, points of view not inspiring?!  I hope these photos inspire you as much as they inspired me! And there is more to come from Day 2!

Love you NY ladies!

xoxo,

m

YAY!! Me Ra, thanks so much for doing this post!!! It’s so fun to see everyone’s images -they are amazing, girls- & a really great reminder of our awesome weekend. I just got my workshop materials the other day & I was SOOOOOOOO excited (We moved & the gal who moved into our house held on to them forever but finally dropped them in the mail for me). I practically ripped it to pieces opening it, I was just so excited.
Thanks for the best weekend, ever! I grew so much & am happy to say ever since May 30, I’ve been ALL MANUAL, ALL THE TIME. that’s my motto. Thanks a million times to you for finally helping it all make sense & to Brian for standing by the window with Hannah & I forever until we finally got metering. YAY! it all clicked. (haha, clicked!)
I just wish I was able to go to the Adorama mini next thurs…

you made my day with this post.
    🙂

PS GRETCHEN! get out of that window!
PSS my legs are REALLY WHITE. I guess Brian was right when he called me ISO 100. haha!!

  2. Karen says:

HOORAY!! thanks Me Ra for doing this! It is great to see everyone again in the group shot!

  3. Looking back at that group pic just brings it ALL back!! You are simply amazing!! Your workshop…your inspiration and these women…have changed my life forever. As I look at the faces in the photo, I realize that we only had known one another for three days. Fast forward to six months later I am see the personalities that I have grown to know and love over email and facebook. Because we have all created such a STRONG bond I think that our picture was the only missing piece of our puzzle. As I told the ladies, life happens and sometimes you need a big girl bottle of wine to just say hey…it’s all good! We are now friends…sisters and sole mates!

  4. Thank you Me Ra for this post and for going above and beyond to recover the group shot! It was an AMAZING weekend. If anyone reading this is thinking about whether they should attend a workshop – run don’t walk – GO!!! It’s a chance to focus on yourself, discover, surprise yourself, make new friends and come out of the weekend with knowledge you can instantly apply to your photography and your life.

We love you back, Me Ra and Brian. It was the start of many BEAUTIFUL friendships!

Thanks Me Ra! What an awesome post and I really feel like all of the ladies I met are such amazing and unique people. 🙂 Photographing the families at the workshop was such a wonderful experience and staying in touch afterwards with each other has made it even better! Sharing stories and our latest work online is more incredible than I ever could have imagined! I love that we all support each other in reaching the things we dream about doing. Thanks again! <3

  13. Shelly says:

Great shots! I love seeing all the pictures of the Confidence workshops…so sad I am missing out on the Seattle workshop in January! Hope you are getting some much needed rest & downtime 🙂

  14. Monica says:

This whole year has been surreal. I made my photography decision in January and 11 months later it is becoming a reality. The May workshop was an incredible catalyst for all that followed. The NY Group rocks. Having your example and following your progress made me capable of stepping into this photo world and tonight we are all meeting at Jane’s for our first reunion – SWEET. I never thought women would become such a powerful force in my life. Love you All, thank you Me Ra for bringing us together 🙂
