The Cure for Fear – Meditations – Dallas Speaker & Author

The cure for fear is feeding yourself daily with hope. Who needs to hear more hopeful stories? If yes, I’ve got a GREAT one for you today!

I was nine months pregnant.

Me Ra Koh pregnant in 2000. Cure for fear blog post.

Pascaline’s birth, our first baby, was going to happen any day. Brian was working the best paying job he’d ever dreamed of having. We bought our first home, a new car, returned from a great getaway in Mexico, and anticipated Pascaline’s arrival.

Five weeks after she was born, the historical High Tech Crash happened. Brian and thousands of others were out of work. Five months later, Brian still hadn’t found work and things got even worse.

Then 9/11 happened.

As a new mom, I was overwhelmed with fear. My baby was six months old, and the whole world felt like it was falling apart. I was desperate to find a cure for fear. What kind of world had I birthed my daughter into? What would her future look like?

And then God started to feed me that beautiful cure. He spoke to my heart and told me Pascaline’s life had awesome purpose. She would become a voice to her generation; she had a role to play in this specific time of history.

God asked me to risk believing these things. Clinging to these promises would be my only cure for fear. And when I did, my fear would be replaced with hope and joy.

Nineteen years later, I see how those promises were true. Pascaline redefines femininity and strength for her generation of women. She is fierce, bold, wicked smart and her own kind of feminine. Even when Pascaline’s running alongside 6’2 guys at Texas A&M’s Corps of Cadets, she doesn’t quit. My girl is a warrior. And we need women like her more than ever.

People stop us all over the world and ask her if she is Arya Stark. What do you think? Senior Portrait of My Daughter, Me Ra Koh Portraits.

Do You Have Young Children?

Take Heart.

There is a dark voice that taunts

…the hearts of parents with young children. It isn’t a new or novel voice. There are just always new parents. The lies are the same. “Look around you. The world is falling apart. Be afraid for your children. Things will only get worse. There is no cure for fear.”

But can I just speak from a place of outliving those voices?

Years down the road, you will see how your children were born for this time in history. The timing of their birth and lives is not random but filled with purpose. They are going to do amazing things, beyond what you could ever imagine or did yourself.

Your mission is to raise your ceiling as high as you can because your ceiling is the floor they’ll dance on.

The cure for fear is laughter. And adventures are powerful too! Me Ra Koh and her daughter in Thailand's jungle.

Exhale fear. Inhale hope.

The very definition of hope is to believe in something we cannot see. God is with you. He is for you not against you. He holds our days in His hands, and those are trustworthy, loving hands.

We will get through this chapter of Coronavirus. Years later, there will be another storm. People around you will feel like the world is falling apart, but you will have a deep peace that passes all understanding. It won’t be your first overwhelming storm.

They will ask you if you know the cure for fear. And with strength and complete confidence, you will tell them of the beautiful truths you learned through this season. And you will keep hope alive.

Happy Birthday to My Girl

To my beautiful, warrior daughter who continues to break the mold on what it means to be a woman of fierce strength, deep drive and love…I couldn’t be more proud. God has used you again and again to teach me the cure for fear. Whether it was you rock climbing out of eye sight in Thailand or telling me you’re praying about joining the Marines.

I look at this portrait of us, and tears come to my eyes. You have redefined beauty for me. I could have never imagined a more beautiful, confident, amazing daughter.

Run honey. Take the vision God gives you and run with all your heart.

As you’ve heard your dad and I say countless times. “Don’t be afraid. Don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.”

Me Ra Koh!!!! I just love you! I have been inspired by you for such a long time, probably eight years now!!!! You have a platform, God is giving you a voice right now, and you are spreading your faith to those that NEED it!! Churches are closed and people are not wanting to listen, but you can touch them in a unique way by ministering to them the way that you are doing. I will be praying for you as you do God’s work in this season, He WILL reward you for your faithfulness!!!!!

On your FB group as Kay Guarnaccia, mama of six, Student doula and birth photographer- we will meet someday!!!!!

Oh my goodness Kay, somehow I missed this comment. Reading it this morning, I’m in tears. I can’t tell you how much this means. Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to share your heart. For encouraging me, I receive every word. I have felt pulled to write in this season, more than I have in a long time. On Monday, I spent six hours writing, words just pouring out of me. I know it’s the Lord bringing me to pen and paper. So hearing this from you means more than I can say. Thank you for your prayers. I treasure them all. I look forward to hugging you in person someday! xo
